Supporting the Community

Memorial Flower Bed

DEWI members are very keen to support the local community. In this picture they are preparing a flower bed on the corner of the High Street and New Farthingdale, not forgetting husbands John and Neil who also helped out. Shrubs and bulbs were planted in memory of DEWI members no longer with us.

The flower bed is maintained regularly and plants and bulbs added each year.

Dormansland Carnival

Marlene is setting up shop in the tea tent at Dormansland Carnival. DEWI members can always be found at the Carnival where they run the tea tent like clockwork.

Hundreds of cups of tea are sold and the DEWI tea tent is famous for its home made cakes and sandwiches. The proceeds of the Carnival are distributed to local community groups.

DEWI Plant Sale

In spring DEWI holds a plant sale outside The Royal Oak, in Dormansland High Street. Numerous bargains of all sorts can be purchased, such as bedding plants, something for the vegetable plot, cuttings from shrubs, and a variety of garden paraphernalia.

And there are always refreshment on hand at a DEWI event!

New Stage Curtains for the Parish Room
DEWI is proud to have sponsored the Parish Room stage curtain project in 2009. After long and faithful service of over fifty years, the stage curtains, originally provided by Dormansland Afternoon WI, were finally ready for retirement. In their place are new royal blue curtains, donated by Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. Dormansland Parish Council and St John's Church both kindly donated funds for the materials to provide new runners and pulley for the curtains, and WI members and husbands provided their labour. DEWI is very grateful to all concerned for their contributions to this community project.

Edenbridge and Oxted Show

The Edenbridge and Oxted Show is a three-day agricultural and country show held in Lingfield over August Bank Holiday weekend. Our members assist with manning the WI marquee, and enter cookery and craft competitions. Marjorie and Ann run a children's corner in the WI marquee which is hugely popular.
